Here’s a panel from Phoebe Gloeckner’s multimedia graphic novella La Tristeza. All of her comics are brutal, but this seems like her most disquieting work yet: surreally depicting dolls with human faces posed on handcrafted sets, the book documents tragedies surrounding the murder of women in Ciudad Juarez.
